Plant Hardiness Zones

Plant hardiness zones were developed to help gardeners determine which plants will thrive in their location. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) created an interactive map for users to find their zones, the link to this map can be found above. Perennials survival can be impacted by how tolerant they are to the winter temperatures. The USDA uses a rating system that let’s you know the coldest zone they can survive, the zones are displayed in ten degree zones and five degree half zones.

From USDA:

The USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map is the standard by which gardeners and growers can determine which perennial plants are most likely to thrive at a location. The map is based on the average annual extreme minimum winter temperature, displayed as 10-degree F zones and 5-degree F half zones.
